Butterfly Encounter

Butterfly Encounter is an all-new, must-see destination within the Connecticut Science Center. Become immersed in a lush tropical habitat surrounded by hundreds of butterflies (at the most glorious stage of their fascinating life cycle) moving freely throughout the exhibit. Guests of all ages will be delighted as they experience 40-50 different species of butterflies through intimate interaction all set in a unique, custom-designed greenhouse. Separate ticket required.

Bionic Me

NOW OPEN
Control a computer using the power of your mind, race against a Paralympian, and see how a bionic eye works in our new Traveling Exhibit, Bionic Me. This exhibit explores the inventive and ingenious medical and industrial breakthroughs that have helped enhance the human experience, and contains both hands-on and full-body experiences. Visitors to Bionic Me will be encouraged to think about the potential of clever technology and how it can change people’s experiences and interactions with the world around them.

Engineering Lab Exhibition

NOW OPEN
Explore 18 brand new hands-on experiences inspired by engineering from the past, present, and future. Create structures, hoist yourself into the air with pulleys, practice coding, create circuits, and much more. Get inspired and have a blast in this new permanent exhibition.

Join LEGO® Education for an immersive hands-on workshop. Your students will have the chance to explore coding, critical thinking, collaboration and problem solving by participating in learning through play activities. During your visit, children will run building and programming activities with LEGO®Education WeDo 2.0.

These fun workshops are led by LEGO employee volunteers. Open to Grades 2-4, availability is limited and seats will fill quickly. Sorry, this program is not open to the public.

Wildlife Encounters Animal Stage Show

You won’t want to miss a special larger-than-life stage show with Wildlife Encounters, where you’ll see animals you’ve never seen before. They’re so wild, you won’t believe they’re real. The skilled presenters of Wildlife Encounters offer an exciting show with a variety of unique animals. Animals may vary by show.

The Wildlife Encounters Show requires a separate theater ticket.

Spooktacular Science Weekend

The Connecticut Science Center will get a little spooky and a little kooky for our annual Spooktacular Science Weekend! Have a ball at the ultimate Halloween party including trick-or-treating, pumpkin decorating, and spooky crafts. This year, the Science Center is going wild with a special appearance from PBS Kids superstar Nature Cat. Meet Connecticut birds of prey with Horizon Wings and see a larger-than-life animal stage show with Wildlife Encounters (separate ticket required).

Spooktacular Science Weekend is sponsored by Big Y World Class Markets. All activities are included FREE with Connecticut Science Center Membership or the purchase of General Admission. Kids under 3 are always FREE! Costumes are encouraged! Adult masks are not permitted. (Activities are tentative and subject to change).

Women in Science: Seismic Shake-Up

Come to the Connecticut Science Center and put your building skills to the test. Work with successful women from the Connecticut Chapter of Women in Transportation to design and build a structure that you think can survive an earthquake. Science Straight Up: The Gene Pool Party

It’s time to blow up your pool floaties, Hartford’s smartest happy hour is going for a swim. Science Straight Up: The Gene Pool Party is diving into the deep end of genetics with hands-on activities and demonstrations. Engage with experts as you explore the latest technology in the field. Analyze DNA with The Jackson Laboratory in their mobile lab, explore gene editing and food safety with EnviroLogix, and investigate controlling genes to improve human health with UCONN. Plus, test your knowledge in BAR Trivia and enjoy more than 165 hands-on exhibits, happy hour bar specials, beer and gin tastings, and food from Bear’s Smokehouse.

Science Straight Up tickets are $10 in advance/ $12 at the door/ $5 for Members.

Sensory Friendly Day

We want everyone to be able to enjoy the Science Center. That’s why we are lowering the volume and dimming the lights for our friends with sensory disabilities. All visitors will get the fun of the Connecticut Science Center plus tons of activities, arts & crafts, and LIVE Gallery Science Demonstrations without the usual loud sounds and bright lights. All are welcome!

Enjoy bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles with Bubble Mania Jr.! Mr. Jim will be here performing his soap bubble tricks in 3 shows between 11AM-2PM where he will also be creating amazing bubble sculptures.

Tickets are $14 online, in advance or $16.95 at the door (1:1 aides are always free).

Adult Coffee Club: 15 Letter for Fun

Join us as we explore the fun and challenging world of puzzles. Who makes the crosswords that appear in the New York Times? Hundreds of people around the country, all of whom share a love of wordplay and puzzles. Take a look behind the scenes with Eric Berlin, a professional puzzle constructor who has contributed dozens of crosswords to the New York Times. He’ll demonstrate what goes into the creation of a successful crossword puzzle — from coming up with a theme, to making the grid, to devising the clues.

Eric Berlin has had dozens of crosswords in the New York Times, as well as in outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, Games Magazine, and many more. He has created live puzzle events for the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, the Connecticut Library Association, and the Milford Public Library.

$15 per person general public, $5 per person for members. Adult Coffee Club admission includes coffee, tea, and admission to the Science Center & Butterfly Encounter.

Women & Girls in Science

Meet and connect with middle and high school girls from around the state who will showcase their winning research and projects from the 2018 Connecticut Science and Engineering Fair.
